We are pleased to share an update on the visit by Dr. Michael Freeland and the Mental Real-of State team at Baraka Women Empowerment in Laikipia County.
During their time there, Dr. Freeland and the team had the unique opportunity to experience the vibrant cultural landscape of Laikipia. This region is renowned for its immense diversity, home to communities such as the Maasai, Samburu, and Turkana, among others. The team gained insight into the distinctive cultural practices and traditions that define these communities.
Baraka Women Empowerment, founded by Dr. Teresia Njora, specifically serves Maasai, Samburu, and Turkana women in Rumuruti. The center’s initiatives in empowering women through skills training in areas like tailoring, beadwork, hairdressing, and computer literacy showcase a dynamic aspect of the local culture – one that embraces progress while honoring heritage. This visit underscored the powerful intersection of cultural richness and community-led empowerment.
